Oly Acts is the result of collaboration with friends who live, work, and go to school in Olympia WA. Basically, we love our neighbors and our city. We love hanging out together, eating together, creating new things, and sharing life. After one such evening of eating and chatting, we determined that we had been blessed with enough to share. Our hope is to positively effect Olympia through loving action.
"Community" is derived from the Latin "cum"(with, together, shared)"muni" (to gift). Community, then, is the act of giving and receiving. It isn't passive charity, distant donations or loans to be repaid, but direct action that builds relationships between people. Love is the gift; our actions are merely a means of manifesting that gift. It is from this concept of community that we hope to grow. With every action and relationship we are re-imagining the average way of life.
We believe that sharing experience is an integral aspect of community. Our experiences cause us to question, re-think, and change. As we experience community together, our blog will archive our stories. With these stories, we hope to re-inspire our Olympia neighbors and our global neighbors. We want to illuminate the love we encounter around us, to enable others to encounter the love around them.
In accordance with our vision of community, the Oly Acts blog is an extension of our daily experiments with life. Communication - a back and forth effort to share experience - is our blog's ultimate function. Our stories can be passively read and personally enjoyed, or they can be acted upon and shared. Action is a personal expression. Whether its asking questions, using your imagination, serving your neighbors, spending time with your friends, or hugging a stranger, we would be blessed to hear about it. Comments and feedback are welcome and encouraged. If you've got a story you want to share, e-mail it to Kaylani (KaylaniSteele@gmail.com)
